What do I need to bring?
Proof of age, and photo ID. If either applicant has been previously married, a certified copy of the divorce decree or decrees pertaining to such prior marriage or marriages.
How To Apply:
Both parties must have attained the age of 18 years at the time the marriage license is effective. Proof of Age and photo ID is required for both parties. If there was a prior marriage for one or both applicants, ending in divorce, the parties must provide the County Clerk with a certified copy of the divorce decree or decrees pertaining to such prior marriage or marriages.
When does It Expire:
The license is valid for 60 days after the effective date.
Name Change:
Filing for a marriage license in the state of Illinois does not cause your or your spouse’s last name to automatically change. Married name change services are available to guide you through the married name change process if you opt to change your name.
