How To Apply:
Both parties must appear with proper identification at the County Clerk’s Office to obtain the marriage License. A Driver’s License or State Issued Photo ID is an acceptable form of identification. If a bride and/or groom has been married before and that marriage ended in divorce within the past six months, a copy of the divorce decree is also required to be provided – if the divorce was final longer than the past six months, just the date the divorce was final and the county and state it is filed in is required.
When does It Expire:
The license expires sixty (60) days after it becomes effective.
Name Change:
Filing for a marriage license in the state of Illinois does not cause your or your spouse’s last name to automatically change. Married name change services are available to guide you through the married name change process if you opt to change your name.
