How To Apply:
Both parties must appear at the County Clerk’s Office to obtain a Marriage License. A Government issued picture ID (Drivers License, State ID Card) and in some cases, proof of age, for both parties. If either party has been divorced within the last six months, you must provide a certified copy of the divorce decree at the time you apply for your Marriage License.
When does It Expire:
The license is valid for 60 days after the effective date.
Name Change:
Filing for a marriage license in the state of Illinois does not cause your or your spouse’s last name to automatically change. Married name change services are available to guide you through the married name change process if you opt to change your name.
