What do I need to bring?
Applicants must present a certified copy of a birth certificate, original with raised seal and government document to show proof of residency. If either applicant was previously married, copies of judgment of divorce, legal annulment papers, or death certificate from previous marriage must be presented.
How To Apply:
Both applicants must be present to sign before the County Clerk or Deputy when applying for their license. Each applicant must provide document to show proof of residency, and a certified copy of birth certificate. If either applicant has been married before, you will need to show a certified copy of the final divorce decree, with court raised seal, of your divorce or annulment decree or spouse death certificate.
When does It Expire:
The license is valid for 30 days after the date of issuance. The marriage must be performed within that period.
Name Change:
Filing for a marriage license in the state of Wisconsin does not cause your or your spouse’s last name to automatically change. Married name change services are available to guide you through the married name change process if you opt to change your name.
