Virginia Marriage License: 4 Application Facts
Preparing to walk down the aisle in Virginia? Don’t forget to file for your marriage license! Below are 4 Facts to know as you apply for your marriage license.
Fact #1 Unlike most states, Virginia has no waiting period for your marriage license so you will receive yours the same day you file. *Be sure to arrive 30 mintue to an hour prior to the office closing to ensure the clerk has enough time to process your application.
Fact #2 A blood test is unnecessary. No need to visit the hospital…the county clerk will take your word that you’re not related to your fiancé!
Fact #3 Some county offices will not accept credit cards that are not Visas or Master Cards, so plan accordingly. If one of those cards isn’t in your wallet, you can bring cash, a check, or a money order to pay your marriage license application fee.
Fact #4 Virginia marriage licenses expire 60 days after they are issued. So, you can apply in advance of your wedding, but don’t go to the county clerk’s office more than 2 months before your wedding.
