How much is it?

A South Dakota marriage license costs $40. Some offices accept only cash and travelers checks.

Identification is required, either a driver's license or a certified copy of a birth certificate.

When does It Expire:

The marriage must be solemnized within 20 days from the purchase of your license or the license becomes void.


Name Change:
Filing for a marriage license in the state of South Dakota does not cause your or your spouse’s last name to automatically change. Married name change services are available to guide you through the married name change process if you opt to change your name.
