I’d like to start by saying that my fiancé and I we’re planning to get our marriage license from the Bartholomew county clerks office. I usually work till 5pm Monday-Friday in Shelby County so I knew I would need to leave work early in order to do this. My fiancé is off one day a week and cannot get off work early enough to go any other day. She called the clerks office and told them we were planning to come there for a marriage license and asked what time we would need to be there by and the woman at the clerks office said 5pm. In order for me to get to the Bartholomew county courthouse I would have to leave by 3:30 which causes me to lose 1.5 hours towards my weekly paycheck (which I pay $250 weekly towards child support, and keep in mind I also have to pay docket fees of $55 for each case I have each year just for them to handle my child support payments. A total of $110 per year. What are my taxes paying for?) So I leave work at 330 and meet my fiancé at the courthouse around 4:40pm (still 20 mins till 5pm) Upon entering the clerks office, we tell them we’re there for the marriage application and pre-applied online. The woman at the front desk then tells us that they stop processing the marriage licenses at 4:30 pm. I proceed to tell them that I took off work early and that we called to see what time to be there by and they said 5pm. So not only did I lose out on 1.5 hours of work (approx. $40) but was also denied service even after telling them it was their fault for telling my fiancé 5. There was no other couples there for a license and it doesn’t specify online that they stop marriage licenses at 4:30. I am extremely disappointed because now I have to take off work early again but it’s ok because it’s not their paycheck. I think that most of the employees “working” in the Bartholomew county court house are the same lazy scum that are responsible for our countries’ slow painful demise. Thanks and have a wonderful day!
Sincerely, The man consistently screwed by the local government.
