Proof of ages, photo IDs and if previously married, copy of divorce certificate or date of death of deceased spouse.
How To Apply:
Both partners in the marriage need to appear in person at the County Clerk's office. We will need to see proof of age either a driver's license for those 18 years and older or a birth certificate for those under 18 years of age or for those born outside of the United States. If you are 16 or 17 years of age, both parents must sign a consent form before applying for the marriage license.
When does It Expire:
The marriage license is effective for 60 days.
Name Change:
Filing for a marriage license in the state of Illinois does not cause your or your spouse’s last name to automatically change. Married name change services are available to guide you through the married name change process if you opt to change your name.
