What do I need to bring?
Government issued identification, and Social Security numbers for both applicants. If either applicant was previously married, the the State and the year for each divorce or death of spouse. If divorced was within the last year at the time of application, a copy of the divorce decree is required.
How To Apply:
A government issued ID for both applicants, and Social Security numbers is required. If either applicant was previously married, the day, month and year of the death/divorce, and the county and state in which the death/divorce occurred. The application must be signed by the applicant(s) under oath indicating the truthfulness of the information under penalty of perjury.
When does It Expire:
The license must be used within 6 months (you must marry within 6 months or the license will be void).
Name Change:
Filing for a marriage license in the state of Maryland does not cause your or your spouse’s last name to automatically change. Married name change services are available to guide you through the married name change process if you opt to change your name.
